Olympic National Park without a car: Port Angeles guide

Stay downtown, walk to dinner and let a local guide take you into Olympic. Three park itineraries make Port Angeles a useful base for a car-free visit.

01 · Let someone else drive

Stay close to your departures

Stay around the waterfront and downtown transit area for local tour departures, restaurants and the Victoria ferry. Red Lion is the easiest waterfront choice; Port Angeles Inn and Quality Inn add an uphill return.

Our mapped hotel walks show the downtown distances. Match your room to the confirmed tour meeting point when booking.

02 · Let someone else drive

Use guided tours for the regional journeys

Local tours connect Port Angeles with northern park highlights or Hoh Rain Forest and Rialto Beach. A guide handles the road connections and adds interpretation on the walks.

The three selected routes depart from Port Angeles. The booking details identify the meeting point or pickup arrangement and return time. Keep a ferry or intercity transfer on a separate part of the schedule.

03 · Let someone else drive

Use the summer Hurricane Ridge shuttle

Clallam Transit’s Hurricane Ridge shuttle runs seasonally, with the operator currently announcing a return in summer 2027. Use the published schedule for tickets, the last return and park-admission arrangements.

For dates outside that season, build the trip around the guided departures available. Each mountain outing also depends on the road being open.

04 · Let someone else drive

Keep the independent part of the trip local

Walk City Pier and the waterfront on arrival, then enjoy downtown restaurants between park days. The half-day forest tour leaves an afternoon for town; the longer tours fill the day.

For a wider road trip with several overnight bases, a rental car offers more route flexibility. For a stay centered on Port Angeles, a few guided park days and walkable evenings are a good combination.
