Start with mountains, lake and harbor

For a first visit, spend one day at Hurricane Ridge and another around Lake Crescent. Save the waterfront for your arrival afternoon and evenings. With a third day, head west for rainforest and Pacific beaches. Our 2-, 3- and 4-day itineraries put those trips in order.

Only have a few hours? Walk City Pier and the waterfront, then add Ediz Hook for a broader view of the strait. Save the Hoh for a full day: the journey from Port Angeles is a substantial part of that outing.

Walk the waterfront and City Pier

City Pier and Hollywood Beach put harbor views right in downtown. Follow the waterfront trail, browse the center and stop for a meal. Ediz Hook adds open-water views back toward the city and mountains, with walking and driving options along the spit.

Stay downtown to make the most of the evening: leave the car at the hotel, walk to dinner and enjoy the harbor after the day visitors head home.

Make Hurricane Ridge your mountain day

Hurricane Ridge is our mountain pick. On a clear day, the open ridgelines and alpine meadows offer the strongest contrast with the forests below. Start at the viewpoints, then follow a meadow path or make Hurricane Hill your main walk. Choose your clearest day and use the current road status to settle the visit.

Want mountains, forest and a waterfall in one guided day? The Sol Duc and Hurricane Ridge tour links those landscapes from Port Angeles.

04 · Explore & experience

Spend an unhurried day at Lake Crescent

Spend a half day at Lake Crescent for a forest walk, shoreline time and a picnic. The lodge and Storm King area pair well with Marymere Falls; the north shore is the starting point for Spruce Railroad Trail walks and rides.

Add seasonal boating for a day on the water, or settle beside the lake after your hike. Choose one side of the lake as your starting point so more of the day goes into exploring.

05 · Explore & experience

Choose rainforest, coast or both

For the western park, pair the Hoh Rain Forest with Rialto Beach: moss-draped woodland followed by driftwood, sea stacks and the Pacific. Join the guided day from Port Angeles or stay near Forks for more time at each stop.

Closer to town, Salt Creek brings tidepools and coastal walks into a shorter day. Sol Duc is the forest-and-waterfall choice, with seasonal hot-springs sessions available as a separate activity.
